About San Juan Pools

With San Juan Pools, there's never any room for compromise on quality. All San Juan fiberglass pools are manufactured in a controlled factory environment under strict supervision, resulting in a predictable high-quality product right down to the tile and accessory installations.

"An unyielding commitment to quality has been San Juan's stock in trade ever since we produced our first fiberglass pool back in 1958. As a matter of fact, our first pool is still in use, looking as good today as the day it left the factory. It's a monument to the enduring quality of our product," says Kirk Sullivan, president of Lakeland, Florida-based San Juan Products.

History

San Juan Pools originated in Seattle, Washington, early in 1958 and was the first company to apply the then-new technology of fiberglass to a full body swimming pool using techniques adapted from boat hull construction. That pool is still in excellent condition to this day, and people still swim in it every summer.

At San Juan, we back fiberglass pools as solidly as we build them. We have dedicated our professional lives to the design and construction of the highest quality swimming pools in the industry to date. San Juan craftsmen assemble each fiberglass pool with meticulous attention to every detail using the best material and the latest technological advancements in fiberglass.

Surface

In addition to being beautiful and luxurious, fiberglass pools by San Juan Products save homeowners time and money over the life of the pool, with the major savings coming in reduced outlays for maintenance, pool chemicals and electricity. Homeowners who choose a San Juan pool will save as much as 70 percent on chemicals and 30 percent on electricity costs.

Due to their sturdy fiberglass construction, San Juan fiberglass pools never need to be resurfaced. By contrast, a typical concrete pool will require periodic resurfacing, meaning extra outlays of cash for many years to come. The bottom line is that while a San Juan fiberglass pool may cost more up front than a vinyl or cement pool, homeowners will more than make up the difference in savings over the life of the pool.

The smooth fiberglass surface of all San Juan pools makes them easier and less expensive to maintain than concrete. They also never require acid washing, and unlike concrete pools with their porous surface, offer no haven for algae and other undesirable elements. This means fiberglass pools are also healthier than concrete pools.

The gel-coat surface of a San Juan pool is a polyester MPG-Isothalic resin with color pigment mixed in. This gel-coat is chemically bonded to the fiberglass and becomes an integral part of the pool. The 30-32 mill gel-coat finish is nonporous, chemically inert, and extremely resistant to acids and oxidizers. Algae cannot penetrate the finish, and any stains which may form on the gel-coat can easily be removed by adding a stain remover to the pool water.

Construction

One of the truly unique features of fiberglass pools by San Juan Products is their molded one-piece construction which enables them to be installed in only a fraction of the time it takes to construct and outfit a concrete pool. A typical San Juan pool can be up and running within one to two weeks of its arrival at a homesite.

The ability of a San Juan pool to flex without losing strength is especially important areas where the ground tends to shift. Fiberglass pools are 17 times stronger than concrete, with a tensile strength of 11,300 pounds per square inch. This means it would take 11,300 pounds of pull to fracture one square inch of a San Juan pool. This flexible strength allows the pool to expand or contract with the earth without being damaged. Because the tile trim is secured to the pool with silicone adhesive and silicone grout, the tile will flex with the pool. The silicone grout is also impervious to stains and algae growth.

Innovation

San Juan Pools continues to be one of the pool industry's most innovative manufacturers, currently offering more than 35 different models in all shapes, sizes and depths. During the past year, San Juan became the first fiberglass pool manufacturer to offer a pool/spa combo unit, in addition to a free-form diving pool.
